October 2007 Minutes

BCNA Meeting Notes Monday, October 8th, 2007

Project/task force updates:
Traffic –Jeanne Alexander, City traffic engineer, came to the meeting. Traffic study results are attached as an updated letter and table of project proposals. In brief: our previous project proposals were all accepted by the City and will be completed through a $55,000 budget. Most involve intersection modifications. The City acknowledges that Monticello Road is a problem; however, it is too complex and changes are being postponed until the old data can be revisited.

Parks – A Rives planning meeting is set for October 24th at 5pm at the park. Also, two
more trees at Belmont Park are in poor health and may have to be removed.

Development – A $10,000 proffer for trees in Belmont might come from Rialto Beach.
The Moore’s Creek PUD is under construction. The Belmont Cottages project has been approved.

Treasury – balance : about $500

Sojourner Bus stop bench – Concrete has been poured, the bench installed, landscaping
is still to come. The City will move the street signs out of the sidewalk. Thanks! to Wally McKeel for managing this project.

Conservation District notes to share: This very important issue is being discussed in City Hall. Similar to the Historic District designation, it will affect demolition/ renovation of existing buildings.

CDBG Grant applications sought – None were offered.

Next Meeting with City Manager – October 25th, City hall 5:30, 2nd Floor

Next meeting with other NA – November 25, 6:30 McIntire room, central library

New neighborhood website at NDS – http://www.charlottesville.org/Index.aspx?page=2035

New president is needed for BCNA. Please contact Chris at 409-1809 if you have questions.

Other matters from members and the public: Re improvements to the intersection at Monticello Road and Carlton Road, the City will provide designs for the curb extensions for the proposed pedestrian crossing. Also, plans for improving the bus stop there are stalled until the intersection improvements are finalized, as the curb will be moved out.

Meeting adjourned. Next meeting: November 12, 7pm, Clark School library.
