Speeding Fine Update

The City Council agreed to pass additional speeding fines on some Belmont/ Carlton Streets. The Daily Progress mentions this in an article about the Meadow Creek Parkway intersection. Link to Article. Emphasis Added

“Speeding fines raised

In other business, the council increased speeding fines on three city streets by $200 beginning Sept. 1.

The three streets are Old Lynchburg Road, from the city limits to Jefferson Park Avenue; Avon Street, from the city limits to Monticello Avenue; and Altavista Avenue, from Monticello Avenue to Avon Street.

The current base fine for speeding in the city is about $60, with an additional $5 for each mile per hour over the posted limit.

Councilors said the fine would encourage drivers to slow down on busy city streets.

The council will review the program six months after the new fines are implemented.”
